ITEM: Artworks by local Wikipedia-Listed Performance Artist and Painter, Tom Miller, will be shown as a part of this month's ArtWalk on February 26, 2016 at the HardBack. Miller's show is entitled, "Animals in Politics" and will feature prints from Tom Miller's "Eating Animals" series. Miller will also unveil his latest painting, "Ted Cruz's Mouth" at 9pm. There will be a brief opening sermon by Gainesville's Minister of Medical Marijuana, The Reverend Angledust, praying for Tom's Safety and anointing the event.
During the evening, Miller will sit at a table across from a large Xerox print of Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz's mouth, and stare into the mouth from 7-9 pm during which time he is not to be disturbed. He will not break contact with Ted Cruz's mouth until two hours have passed; a feat which may put the artist in danger of becoming brain-dead. Due to the danger of this event, tipping is encouraged.
"I think all the candidates are just the worst people," said Miller. "And so I am hoping that by staring into the abyss that is Ted Cruz's mouth for two hours, I will find some hope for the future." Miller was for Joe Biden until he declared he would not seek the presidential election. "I have no choice. I have to stare into Ted Cruz's mouth now," Miller said.
Miller's "Eating Animals" series shows a variety of animals utilizing knives and forks. In one case, there is a lobster with a knife and fork eating another lobster on a plate with drawn butter. Miller said, "I think this demonstrates what we have become in our political discourse, a bunch of animals eating each other, but with remnants of common decency, at least enough to devour each other with silverware."
At the end of the night, Miller will stop staring into Ted Cruz's mouth and unveil his acrylic on canvas painting, which is of Ted Cruz's mouth and is called, "Ted Cruz's Mouth". The piece will sell for $300, or best offer, and Miller said he would use the money to buy Lobsters and martinis.
This show is an advertised official sanctioned part of Art Walk, and will be presented on the 2nd floor of the new Hardback.
"Nobody has ever stared into Ted Cruz's mouth for two solid hours in history. I am taking this risk because sometimes in life, you have to engage with a black hole, as NASA has recently shown with the confirmation of gravity waves," Miller said. "If I don't do this, we are all going to be stuck in 1974."
