On Valentine's Day of 2020, I'm off to Fairfield Iowa and Maharishi International University for what will be my final semester of the David Lynch MFA Program and the conclusion of a 7-year (turned out to be 9-year) performance art piece entitled, "Professor Miller".
The original plan was profiled in the Independent Florida Alligator March 3rd of 2011 entitled, "ARTIST PLAYS THE ROLE OF STUDENT!"
Here's a quote from the article:
For his most recent project, Miller has gone back to school. He’s enrolled as a theater student at Santa Fe College, and is currently one year into a seven-year performance piece he calls “Professor Miller.”
His plan is to finish his degree at UF and go on to receive his master’s degree. When he graduates, he will become a professor of theater, and once positioned as such, he will give it up.
I want to show people, you're never too old to quit college. It's now been 9 years later, I'm currently carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA, I've written three highly-rated screenplays, and I keep a very special SECRET Blog which details each week the experience of attending this very unique program of study.
Now when I get on the airplane, I like to drink martinis because at Maharishi International University, there is requested to be no drinking of alcohol, absolutely no drugs, and our diet is strictly vegetarian on campus. We enjoy Transcendental Meditation twice daily as well as Asanas, and we engage in highly concentrated coursework with Master instructors including an interactive session with David Lynch.
And I have the pleasure of amazing peers who are all accomplished and creative and talented and supportive. So proud to be graduating soon with this class.
The Secret Blog also contains great information for people who love cinema, and for those who do ANY type of creative writing - from poetry to plays to screenplays to short stories to novels. You will experience in the blog a journey, and perhaps find one for yourself.
If that sounds like an interesting link to have bookmarked, you can INSTANTLY receive the Secret Link to my Maharishi International University blog. All you have to do is make ANY contribution (remember that yellow button I began with), even a dollar, and you will be emailed the link directly after your support is received.
There, you can follow along for the rest of the year, and even into our fifth and final residency which will be happening in L.A. There, I'll be pitching scripts, learning and sharing about the business of Hollywood and film-making, and if we're very lucky and he happens to be in town, we may hang out a bit with David Lynch. And you can be there vicariously through the Secret Blog right along side me. I promise to only use contributions from here on out for Airplane Martinis and high-quality Airport Food.
It's been a long ride and I especially want to thank everyone who has helped me in this journey including my cheer-leading fiance Robert, my mentors Professor Gregg Jones, Professor Terry Klenk, Professor Tim Altmeyer, Dr. Ralf Remshardt, Dr. David Young, Professor Emeritus Yanci Bukovec, Professor Kathy Sara, and my friends and fellow artists Michael Bobbitt, Jeff Compton, Joey Larson, Angel Tidwell, Alex Davidowski, Shamrock McShane, Michele LeSeur, Kim Chalmers, Alyson Chadwick, Doug Waltonbaugh, David Dick, Chuck Martin, Don Traub, Marc Meisel, Jason Hedges, Alan Bushnell, Michael Garvin, Reverend Angeldust and everybody at the Tabernacle of Hedonism, and there are so many more amazing people whom I'll be sure to recognize and honor at the end of the road.
A song comes to mind and it's true for all of us:
"I get by with a little help from my friends." Nobody does it alone. We're all on this space ship together, and enjoy it while you can. A blink of the eye.
Meanwhile, if you want that Secret Blog link (and trust me, you do...) you know what to do. Those martinis ain't gonna' drink themselves.
Please accept a creative gift: Here's a bonus link to a demo track from my upcoming solo music album, Arcadia. The track is called, "Go Within."
See you in Fairfield.
GO WITHIN!
