You, our esteemed Gainesville Public & Media, are cordially invited to attend the ground breaking ceremony for Performance Artist Tom Miller's "Instillation" of Nothing at the newly renovated Downtown Bo Diddley Plaza.

This happening will occur May 31, 2016 at precisely 5pm. Mr. Miller and his crew will be available to answer questions, and photographs of the initial phase of this near two-week project are encouraged. There will be a small ribbon cutting ceremony. Nothing will be provided.

At 5pm, Mr. Miller will cut a ribbon, and Miller and his crew will begin loading nothing into the plaza. The crew will be working for 15 minutes (Mr. Miller can only afford 15 minutes per day because most people gave nothing to support the event.)

Each afternoon there after until and including June 4th, a crew will continue "Instilling" nothing into the plaza under the direction of Mr. Miller, and this will all be assembled into a giant sculpture of nothing. Nothing will occupy the plaza for five days, during which time the public is encouraged to interact with nothing and take photos of nothing. On June 9th, Mr. Miller's crew will take three days to remove nothing from the plaza (again, beginning at 5pm each day) until nothing remains in the plaza.

At the conclusion of nothing, nothing will have happened.

We hope you will join us for this event. This is the first time in history that nothing has been presented as a sculpture of three-dimensions in such a large scale.

Dear Friends, Colleagues and beyond!

It is with great excitement that I announce the launch of my Hatchfund fundraising campaign in support of my upcoming "Instillation" piece, Tom Miller 'Instills' Nothing in the Downtown Plaza.
 
We are trying to raise an ambitious $2501 in the three short weeks leading up to the work. The campaign closes at the end of May, so any and all help would be greatly appreciated! This work will be my final performance artwork in Gainesville, Florida, but, as is often the case, we are still short of the funds we need for last minute production needs and to adequately compensate my incredible team of artistic collaborators. We are, in fact, $2481 short. That is exactly the amount needed to bring this production to fruition! Please take a moment to view the brief video I put together about my project. Nothing is an important work for me in many ways: it marks a new direction in my work, it is the first time I have truly explored the dynamic of providing nothing for money in a 3-dimensional sculpture situation. The folks working with me to put nothing on include artists who have given countless hours of their time and effort in the community supporting local arts and theatre, and they have done this for years for nothing. I intent to actually pay them for nothing with this project, and your help.
 
I know how inundated we all are with requests for money, and that you may or may not be able to provide substantial resources at this moment in time. Just know that any amount makes a difference and, if you are not able to give, helping to spread the word can be equally powerful. I’ve chosen to work with hatchfund.org because I wanted to partner with a non-profit organization whose mission is dedicated to supporting the work of artists. This service is free for the artist, provides fully tax-deductible contributions, and one-on-one support to me throughout the fundraising campaign. It is FOR art.
